CampCrew ("CampCrew", "we", "our", or "us") is a private camping trip log for families and camping groups ("crews"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it. It covers the CampCrew Android app, the CampCrew iPhone app, and the website at campcrew.camp.
1. Information We Collect
When you sign in
CampCrew has no passwords of its own. You sign in with an account you already have:
- Google (Android, iPhone and web): we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.
- Sign in with Apple (iPhone): we receive the name you choose to share (Apple provides it only the first time you sign in) and an email address. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email," that address is a private relay address that forwards to you.
- Linked sign-in: if you link Google and Apple in Settings, both lead to the same CampCrew profile.
We never see your Google or Apple password. We keep a CampCrew profile with your name, email address, profile photo, and your crew memberships and roles.
What you add
- Trips and campgrounds: campground names, locations and map coordinates found through address search, stay dates, site numbers, nightly rates, ratings, site details (electric and water hookups, level pad, pull-through or back-in, pad length, pet-friendly), amenities, companions, and notes.
- Outings and dining: names, dates, costs, ratings, must-try dishes, notes, and your crew's custom activity categories and cuisines.
- Crew planning: expenses, who paid, cost splits and settlements, packing lists, and wishlist ideas, votes, and discussions.
- Photos: campsite photos, banners, and maps you choose to upload, plus comments and emoji reactions on them. Before a photo is uploaded, the app re-encodes it, which removes embedded metadata such as the location where it was taken.
- Crew details: crew names, invite codes, member roles, and requests to join a crew.
- Home address (optional): see section 4.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address, an optional first name, and your preferred camping style. We use them to email you a confirmation and, when your spot opens, an early-access pass and beta invitations (Google Play testing and Apple TestFlight). We delete a waitlist entry on request; email support@campcrew.camp.
CampCrew Shop orders
If you order from the CampCrew Shop, Stripe collects your payment details and shipping address on its checkout page. We receive the order details (items, name, email, and shipping address) so Printful can print and ship it. We never receive your card number.
What we don't collect
- No device location. The apps don't use your phone's GPS. Campground locations come from searches you type.
- No advertising, analytics, or tracking today. CampCrew currently shows no ads and contains no analytics or crash-reporting services and no tracking pixels. If we add advertising in the future, we will update this policy before any ads appear (see Section 10).
2. How We Use Your Information
- To sign you in, check which crews you belong to, and apply each crew's permissions.
- To keep your crew's shared trip log in sync across everyone's devices.
- To look up campgrounds and addresses, and to calculate distances from your home address.
- To handle invite codes, join requests, and registration passes.
- To fulfill CampCrew Shop orders.
- To keep the service working and secure, for example by enforcing storage limits and preventing abuse.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. CampCrew does not show ads today, and we do not share your information for advertising.
3. Who Can See Your Information
- Your crew: everything in a crew's log (trips, photos, outings, dining, expenses, packing lists, ideas, and comments) is visible to that crew's members. So are your name, email address, profile photo, and role. Nothing in a crew is public, and photos are shown only through short-lived links issued to crew members.
- A crew you ask to join: your name and email address are sent to that crew's owner and admins so they can approve or decline you. The request stays in that crew's records after they decide.
- Your home address: only you.
- Other crews (public campgrounds only): when a campground you log is a public campground listed in OpenStreetMap, its public details as OpenStreetMap lists them (name, address and map location) go into a shared campground list that every CampCrew user's campground search can suggest. Nothing about you, your crew or your visits is included, and a private spot that isn't a listed public campground is never shared.
- Service providers that run CampCrew for us, and only for that purpose:
- Google Firebase: sign-in, the database, and website hosting.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple on iPhone.
- Cloudflare: photo storage (R2) and the service that handles photo uploads and downloads (Workers).
- Google Places API and OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): receive the campground names and addresses you search for.
- Stripe and Printful: CampCrew Shop orders only.
- Mailgun: delivers email sent to our @campcrew.camp addresses.
- Resend: sends our waitlist emails (confirmations and invitations).
- The website loads fonts from Google Fonts and code libraries from Google and jsDelivr, which, like any website, see your IP address when your browser requests them.
- Our admins: the app's owner and anyone we give admin access can technically reach stored data to operate and support the service. We don't browse your trips or photos.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or the service.
4. Your Home Address
Adding a home address is optional. It is kept in a separate record that only your account can read — never your crew members or anyone else. It is used to fill in your starting point and calculate distances to campgrounds, and to do that it is sent to our mapping providers (Google Places, with OpenStreetMap as a fallback) to turn it into map coordinates.
5. Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored by Google Firebase and Cloudflare, whose servers may be outside your country. Each app also keeps a copy on your device so it works offline. Our Security Policy describes how it is protected.
6. Keeping and Deleting Your Data
- We keep your data while your account and crew exist. We never delete an account, a crew, or its data because it hasn't been used.
- Storage limits: if a crew is over its plan's storage limit (for example, after a paid plan ends), we warn you in the app and wait 90 days. If the crew is still over the limit, we remove its oldest photos, only as many as needed to get back under the limit, and never everything. Every crew is on the free plan today.
- Deleting things: you can delete trips, photos, and other entries at any time. Deleting a photo removes it from our storage.
- Deleting your account: use Settings → Delete account in the Android app, the iPhone app, or on the web at campcrew.camp (sign in, then Settings). This deletes your profile, your private data (including your home address), and your sign-in account. If you own a crew (you created it, or ownership was transferred to you), that crew is deleted too, with all of its trips, photos, and other data, for every member. To keep the crew going, transfer ownership to another member first. Things you added to a crew someone else owns stay with that crew as part of its shared log; the crew's owner or admins can delete them, or you can ask us to.
- Without the app: email support@campcrew.camp from the address on your account and we will delete your account for you.
- Deleted data can take a short time to be fully removed from our service providers' systems.
- Exporting: crew owners and admins can download a .zip of the crew's photos and trip log from the Crew tab on the web.
7. Payments
CampCrew is free today. If we introduce paid storage plans, payments will be handled by Google Play (Android), Apple (iPhone), or Stripe (web), and we will update this policy before anyone is charged. CampCrew never receives or stores card numbers.
8. Children's Privacy
CampCrew is designed for family camping trips. Minor family members may take part as crew members under the supervision of a parent or guardian who manages the crew. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children independently of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent's consent, contact privacy@campcrew.camp and we will delete it.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to how it is used. You can do most of this in the app. For anything else, email privacy@campcrew.camp. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
10. Changes to This Policy
When we change this policy, we update the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, such as adding advertising, we will also let you know in the app before the change takes effect.
